How to use fabric scraps after sewing?
Do you identify at least a little with the ecological approach to sewing? Less waste sewing does not require much effort and is very easy to get into. At the same time, it does not take away from the joy of creating projects, it does not limit and stimulates the imagination. One of the eco-sewing methods is to use fabric scraps. What can we conjure up from them?
Scraps and scraps
When sewing clothes, even in home workshops, large amounts of waste are generated. This includes scraps, i.e. very small pieces of materials and slightly larger ones that we did not use in the previous project. We collect them, keep them in the closet and usually have no idea what to do with them. Now let's consider how much waste is produced in the mass production of clothing. Despite the good layout of the templates, there is certainly a lot of unused space! Fortunately, some of them are recycled for reuse, while the rest unfortunately end up in landfills.
A zero-waste way to sew
The most important rule is to buy wisely and use it as much as possible. For this reason, do not throw away scraps or larger pieces of fabric after creating the project. These can also be used. Only recently, the epidemiological situation forced us to wear protective masks. These small but important elements could easily be sewn from waste. Fabric scraps are also great for creative play with your child. You can sew buttons on them, create clothes for dolls or mini toys.
Patchwork, which is nothing more than fabric made of scraps of various colors and patterns, has been on top lately. We can use the scraps to make a fashionable pillowcase, a bedspread or a mini table runner. The scraps can also be used to sew hair accessories. We can easily make an eye-catching headband or scrunchie out of them. What else can we use scrap materials for? For example, underwear or jewelry bags.
We can also try to sew a functional cosmetics bag that will accompany us while traveling. You can also use scraps to create comfortable slippers, socks and even a hat! Scraps will be an interesting finishing touch to interior design. We don't necessarily have to make the entire element from them, the scraps will work great as an application on a pillowcase, quilt, blanket or even furniture.
Ingenuity counts
We hope that we have inspired you at least a little to look for ways to use scraps of materials. As you can see, these small, "unnecessary" elements can be used in interesting ways, both in fashion, interiors and in games with children. The effect we will achieve will make the received items unique, with their own style and character. As a result, they will attract the attention of everyone who has the opportunity to see them.
