Description

Corduroy Huego “Light Grey” — a light, cool grey with a delicate, greenish hint of sage. Darker, graphite-grey grooves clearly define the wide, plush wale. This calm colour suits minimalist interiors — for upholstering a corner sofa, an armchair or upholstered wall panels. You’ll find more fabrics for living-room furniture in our Fabrics for Sofas collection.

About the fabric — Corduroy Huego

Huego is an upholstery corduroy with a wide, strongly raised wale: each wale is covered in a dense, soft pile, with flat, narrow grooves running between them. The fabric weighs 330 g/m², is made of 91% polyester and 9% polyamide and has a usable width of min. 140 cm. In the Martindale test it withstands from 90,000 to over 100,000 abrasion cycles, which corresponds to the highest category A for upholstery fabrics — so it is also suitable for sofas, corner sofas and armchairs in everyday use. The colour is highly resistant to rubbing (4–5 on a scale of 1–5, category A) and moderately resistant to light (4–5 on an eight-step scale), so it is worth protecting the upholstery from prolonged direct sunlight. The fabric copes well with pilling (rating 4, category B), is resistant to snagging and passed the smouldering cigarette ignitability test with no ignition. Like any pile fabric, it subtly changes shade depending on the direction of the pile, which gives furniture a soft, velvety character. All Huego colours are the same fabric, so it is easy to combine several shades in one interior. We sell it by the metre: 1 unit = 0.5 m, and the quantity you order in a given colour is shipped as one piece.

💚 Order 5 fabric samples for PLN 5 and see the colour, thickness and pile softness of Huego corduroy in person — ideally in daylight, next to the furniture and walls it will go with — before you place a larger order. Free DPD delivery within Poland on orders over PLN 150.

Fabric features

  • Very high abrasion resistance — from 90,000 to over 100,000 cycles in the Martindale test (EN ISO 12947-2), i.e. the highest category A for upholstery fabrics according to DIN EN 14465; it performs well on heavily used sofas, corner sofas and armchairs.
  • Wide, raised wale — rounded bands of dense, soft pile create a bold, three-dimensional pattern, further emphasised by flat, slightly darker grooves.
  • Substantial and strong — a weight of 330 g/m² and category A tensile and tear strength mean the upholstery copes well with everyday use.
  • Colour fastness — to dry and wet rubbing 4–5 on a scale of 1–5 (category A); to light 4–5 on the eight-step blue wool scale (category B–C), so it is worth protecting the upholstery from prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Resistant to pilling and snagging — pilling 4 (category B) and snagging resistance 5 on a scale of 1–5, where 5 is the best result.
  • Cigarette test passed — the fabric passed the smouldering cigarette ignitability test (EN 1021-1, BS 5852 Part 1 ignition source 0, CAL TB 117) with no ignition. This is not, however, a flame-retardancy certificate — see the FAQ for details.
  • Pile direction — the pile lies in one direction, so the fabric subtly changes shade depending on the viewing angle and the angle of the light; this is a natural characteristic of pile fabrics.
  • Wide colour palette — from vanilla, beige and taupe to turquoise, khaki and chocolate; all shades are the same fabric, so they are easy to combine in one interior.

Uses — furniture and interior decor

  • Sofas and corner sofas — abrasion resistance of 90,000 to over 100,000 Martindale cycles makes it suitable for upholstering living-room furniture that the whole family uses every day.
  • Armchairs and pouffes — the plush, wide wale gives them a cosy character in both retro and modern interiors.
  • Headboards — the soft texture, warm to the touch, and the calm colours suit a bedroom well.
  • Upholstered wall panels — behind a bed, behind a sofa or in a child’s room; the wale creates a bold, rhythmic pattern on the wall.
  • Benches and seats — in the hallway, the dining room or at the foot of the bed; the substantial fabric copes well with frequent sitting.
  • Decorative cushions and throws — choose them in the upholstery colour or in a contrasting Huego shade to add warmth to a sofa or bed.

💡 Upholstery tip: before cutting, mark the pile direction with chalk on the reverse of the fabric and lay all upholstery pieces the same way — otherwise neighbouring parts of the furniture, e.g. the seat and the back, will look like two different shades. The wales usually run vertically, and the pile is directed down the back and towards the front of the seat, so that it smooths down when you sit. When stretching the fabric, spread the tension evenly and avoid strong point tension, so as not to distort the wale.

Care

  • 🖐️ Washing: according to the manufacturer’s symbol, hand wash only (e.g. removable covers and cushion covers), in lukewarm water with a mild detergent; do not rub or wring the fabric, so as not to crush the pile.
  • 🚫 Bleaching: do not bleach — do not use any bleach or bleaching stain removers (whether chlorine-based or oxygen-based).
  • 🌬️ Drying: do not tumble dry — dry flat, away from radiators, and once dry, smooth the pile by hand in its natural direction.
  • 👕 Ironing: only at a low temperature (one dot, max. 110 °C), without steam and without pressing down on the iron — iron on the reverse only, so as not to crush the pile.
  • ♻️ Dry cleaning: only mild professional dry cleaning is permitted (symbol P in a circle with a bar underneath) — choose a dry cleaner with experience of pile fabrics.
  • 🧹 Everyday care: vacuum the upholstery regularly with an upholstery attachment, gently and in the direction of the pile — this removes dust and crumbs and keeps the pile fluffy. In line with the manufacturer’s symbol, do not scrub the upholstery with a brush.
  • 💧 Stains: spot clean straight away — soak up any liquid with an absorbent cloth without rubbing, then gently wipe the mark with a damp cloth and a mild cleaner, from the edge of the stain towards the centre, without excess water. Always test any cleaning product in a hidden spot first.
  • ☀️ Sun and heat: protect the furniture from prolonged direct sunlight and do not place it right next to a radiator or fireplace — UV rays and high temperatures can change the colour, especially of intense shades.
  • 🎨 Dye transfer: strong and dark colours may transfer dye onto light fabrics through rubbing — take care with light cushions, blankets or clothes. On light upholstery, in turn, watch out for dark clothing that may bleed dye, e.g. new jeans.
  • 🪡 Pilling and snagging: pilling is a natural process that cannot be completely eliminated. Protect the upholstery from sharp objects, e.g. pets’ claws, buckles or zips, which can snag the fabric.
  • 📦 Storage before upholstering: fabric fresh off the roll may be creased. Until you upholster, store it flat or rolled in one direction, and do not weigh it down with other items — crushed pile can become permanently deformed.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Huego corduroy suitable for a heavily used sofa?

Yes. In the Martindale test (EN ISO 12947-2) the fabric withstands from 90,000 to over 100,000 abrasion cycles, which corresponds to the highest category A for upholstery fabrics according to DIN EN 14465 — a result with a large margin for furniture used every day in the living room. It also has good resistance to pilling (4) and snagging (5) on a scale of 1–5. Just bear in mind that in the most frequently used areas the pile may settle differently over time and change shade slightly — this is a natural characteristic of pile fabrics, not a defect.

How much fabric do I need for an armchair or sofa?

The exact amount depends on the shape and dimensions of the furniture, so the figures below are a rough guide only and apply to a width of 140 cm: pouffe or bench seat — approx. 1–1.5 m, armchair — approx. 4–6 m, three-seater sofa — approx. 10–14 m, corner sofa — approx. 14–20 m. All pieces are cut in the same pile direction, so it is worth adding a small allowance. An upholsterer can work it out most accurately from the cutting layout. When ordering, remember that 1 unit = 0.5 m, and the whole quantity you order in a given colour is shipped as one piece.

Is Huego corduroy flame-retardant?

Not as standard — it is not a flame-retardant fabric. It has, however, passed the smouldering cigarette ignitability test (EN 1021-1, BS 5852 Part 1 ignition source 0, CAL TB 117) with no ignition. A flame-retardant version that meets EN 1021-2 (match test) and BS 5852 Part 1 ignition source 1 is offered by the manufacturer only as an optional extra service. If you need fabric with this certification, e.g. for commercial premises or a public building, get in touch with us before placing your order.

Why does the fabric look different from different angles?

This is a natural characteristic of pile fabrics. The pile of Huego corduroy lies in one direction, so depending on the viewing angle and the angle of the light, the fabric looks lighter or darker, and with use, areas with a different sheen may appear on the seats (known as shading). To make the upholstery look uniform, all pieces of the furniture are cut in the same pile direction.

How do I clean furniture upholstered in Huego corduroy?

For everyday care, vacuuming with an upholstery attachment in the direction of the pile is enough — without scrubbing with a brush. Spot clean stains straight away: first soak up the liquid with an absorbent cloth, then gently wipe the mark with a damp cloth and a mild cleaner — without hard rubbing and without excess water. Always test any product in a hidden spot first. Removable covers can be washed by hand or taken for mild professional dry cleaning; do not bleach the fabric, do not tumble dry it and do not iron it with steam.

Can I see the fabric in person first?

Yes — order 5 fabric samples for PLN 5 and check the colour, thickness and pile softness of Huego corduroy in daylight, ideally next to the furniture and walls it will go with. The shade of fabric from a later batch may differ slightly from the sample, usually by about one tone, so it is best to order the full quantity of a given colour in one go.
