A handmade crop top
The chain stores offer crop tops in various versions. Nevertheless, we timidly believe that we will feel greater satisfaction from completing the project ourselves. Not only because of knowledge of current trends, but also because of manual skills. Creating a crop top yourself requires only willingness, creativity and good cooperation with the machine. There are several ways to do it. The easiest way is to remake an old T-shirt, blouse or shirt. However, with materials from Textil World, creating it "from scratch" will be equally pleasant and simple.
Crop top styles
First, it is worth considering what we will wear it for. When choosing a cut, it is best to follow the same rules as for other types of blouses. Crop tops are available in shoulder-baring Spanish versions, models with thin straps, in the form of corsets, turtleneck styles, envelope necklines or narrow V-shaped cutouts. They are also available in short or long sleeves, oversize, fitted, and with romantic ruffles. or puff sleeves. The hit of recent seasons are models with ties, asymmetric cutouts or stylish cuffs that give a gathered effect. Finally, it is worth adding that crop tops are not reserved only for women in size XS. Each of us can wear them.
How to sew a crop top with sleeves?
This is where knowledge of basic stitches and sewing principles comes in handy. Before starting work, you should take accurate measurements of your body - determine the circumference of your waist, bust, arms and its length. Using the dimensions, cut two pieces of fabric into rectangular shapes.
Example: for bust circumferences of 86 cm and waist circumference of 74 cm, spaced 33 cm apart, the rectangle should have dimensions of 43x37x33 cm. If we plan to hem the fabric, add 1 cm to the dimensions.
It's time for the sleeves. On a piece of folded fabric, draw a rectangle with the total width of the arm circumference and the specified length. Then cut along the lines to obtain two equal pieces.
Example: for an arm circumference of 41 cm and a sleeve length of 15 cm, we cut out rectangles measuring 41x15 cm. We add 1 cm if we want to hem the fabric.
Let's move on to sewing. Place the two pieces of fabric so that the back side is facing outwards and the edges are even. Then sew with any stitch, 1.3 cm from the edges of the sides. Then we sew the sleeves in the same way. If necessary, hem all edges, making sure that the fabric is placed with the raw edges facing inwards. Next, we attach the sleeves to the sides, matching the corner of the inner seam to the upper corner. We cut out the excess thread and it's ready!
What materials should a crop top be made of?
The material should be matched to the cut and purpose of our crop top. Materials such as jersey, sweatshirt or cotton are suitable for creating a sports model. For retro styles, we recommend: jessica or nylon. It is worth creating an elegant top with: satin, viscose or chiffon. If we want to sew a model perfect for summer circumstances, choose airy and light muslin or batiste.
